Human Body Mystery

2004 – 2007

Concept

This series was developed during my BA Fine Art: Painting studies at the University of Brighton. My paintings emerge from a desire to explore the human body—its mechanisms, reactions, and hidden processes—while also experimenting with painting, material, and color.

The images evoke a dialogue between the body as it appears to us and its inner counterpart. One seeks to understand the other, while the other attempts to communicate through physical responses. I observe this silent exchange in everyday situations: interactions with others, intimate relationships, important decisions, adaptation to new environments, or reactions to illness.

Colors, materials, and techniques confront, merge, and overlap on the surface in a spontaneous and intuitive way. Guided by form and composition, they find their place within the image, just as external influences shape the position of human beings within humanity.

Technique and materials

The works are created using mixed media, primarily acrylic paint on cotton canvas. Alongside painting, I incorporate collage, charcoal, oil pastels, and other drawing materials to build layered surfaces and enrich the visual language of the pieces. The combination of these materials allows for a dynamic interaction between painting and drawing, creating textures and marks that contribute to the expressive and experimental nature of the work.
