Hello, Bonjour, Hola

Cat Protrait

Born into a Belgian–English family, I grew up in Belgium up until I was 18. I studied Fine Art Painting at the University of Brighton in the UK, where I primarily worked with acrylic paint and drawing materials on canvas. After completing my studies, I lived in Brussels for 4 years, where I trained as a graphic designer while continuing to paint, experimenting with oil painting and participating in group exhibitions.

In 2012, I moved to Barcelona, where I became part of the local artistic community by sharing studio spaces and participating in group exhibitions. During this time, my practice gradually shifted from canvas to paper, which felt more natural to me. I was drawn to exploring texture and to working beyond the fixed format that canvas can impose. It was also then that I discovered the world of artist books, a medium that allowed me to work with textured papers while inviting the viewer to interact physically with the work.

From 2017 onward, my artistic practice gradually moved into the background as I pursued a career in the corporate world, working as a graphic designer and creative manager before co-founding a company in Barcelona focused on community-engagement projects. Alongside this, I continued creating whenever possible, developing more intimate and experimental work in my sketchbooks through collage and drawing.

In 2026, I chose to leave the corporate world to dedicate myself fully to my artistic practice (still in Barcelona). My current work focuses on reconnecting with material, gesture, and the land—both symbolically and personally. I am currently working with natural pigments and exploring natural dyes on linen, incorporating craft techniques such as embroidery and textile collage.
